Gregory Petrick, Chair of Cadwalader's Financial Restructuring Group and Co-Managing Partner of the firm’s London office, represents creditors and strategic investors in complex cross-border transactions.  His practice encompasses counseling bank syndicates, distressed investors, private credit funds and regulators.

In recognition of Greg's many accomplishments in the restructuring space, Best Lawyers in America selected Greg as a leading lawyer in the areas of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights, Insolvency and Reorganization and Bankruptcy Litigation, and he has been recognized as a key individual by The Legal 500, IFLR1000 and Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom.

Greg’s work has been recognized by the International Financial Law Review twice for “Restructuring Deal of the Year”.

  • Representing a UK based asset manager in regulatory and asset disposition matters before the Bermuda Monetary Authority (confidential).
  • Representing American Transit Insurance Company in restructuring and regulatory matters before the New York Department of Financial Services.
  • Represented senior secured lenders in the chapter 11 cases of the Margaritaville Hotel and in the workout of loans secured by commercial real estate in New York City.
  • Represented the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in connection with the creation and implementation of the Main Street Lending Program, a $600 billion facility to aid small and medium-sized businesses affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.
  • Represented a joint venture acquisition vehicle in the Section 363 acquisition of aircraft manufacturer MD Helicopters.
  • Advising MBIA in connection with its exposure to two distressed CLOs that collectively issued over $4.1 billion in debt in chapter 11 cases filed by the Zohar funds in Delaware.
  • Advised Hemen Holding, the largest shareholder of Seadrill, in the successful $13 billion chapter 11 restructuring and related Bermuda scheme of the deepwater drilling company, shortlisted as "2019 Global Finance Deal of the Year" byThe American Lawyer, and subsequently advising Hemen in a convertible bond investment in the 2021 filing of Seadrill and its affiliated debtors.
  • Represented MBIA in connection with the chapter 11 cases of Residential Capital Funding.
  • Represented bondholders in chapter 11 restructuring of Roust Corporation, named "2017 Restructuring Deal of the Year" by IFLR.
  • Represented the Joint Provisional Liquidators of Lehman Re in connection with asset dispositions, restructuring and matters before the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
  • Advised bank lenders in the refinancing of GMAC $2 billion debt.
  • Represented secured bank lenders in the reorganizations of Toisa Shipping, TBS Shipping, Marco Polo Shipping, and Eagle Bulk Shipping.
  • Represented monoline insurer CIFG Holding in restructuring its exposure to ABS CDOs and matters before the New York Department of Financial Services, named "2009 Restructuring Deal of the Year" by IFLR.
  • Advising parties regarding the FDIC administration of IndyMac bank.
  • Represented creditors' committees in Mirant Americas Generation, Calpine Canada Energy Finance ULC, Protection One, American Restaurant Group, Flag Telecommunications, Huntsman, Dictaphone Corporation, Florida Coast Paper and Golden Ocean Group.
