It’s not even law yet, but opponents threaten to take energy reform bill to referendum

Cadwalader partner and head of State Attorney General Practice Doug Gansler was featured in a recent Maryland Matters article about a potential ballot referendum to overturn the state’s Next Generation Energy Act.

Doug, who was approached to provide legal services to the group pursuing the referendum, is quoted discussing key legal questions surrounding the campaign, including the use of electronic signatures to meet challenging deadlines.

He also noted that while the bill includes some positive provisions, others—such as the nixing of subsidies for waste-to-energy incinerators—have sparked significant concern among industry stakeholders.
