Jakeob Brown is a partner in Cadwalader’s Financial Restructuring practice.

Jakeob represents ad hoc committees, hedge funds, asset managers, CLOs, and institutional and secondary investors in relation to contentious and non-contentious restructurings, special situations, liability management, private credit and formal insolvency processes, including associated litigation. Jakeob has handled numerous cross-border and domestic debt restructurings, coercive and distressed exchange offers, and private credit transactions. He has significant experience in the energy, oil and gas sector. 

Prior to joining Cadwalader in 2026, Jakeob practiced in the London office of Akin Gump for 10 years. He has also spent time on secondment at King Street Capital Management. Before Akin, he served as a restructuring and special situations associate in the Sydney office of Ashurst.

Jakeob is active in numerous professional organizations, including the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), where he the Vice President of the NextGen Committee, the Loan Market Association, Insolvency Lawyers Association and LGBT Bar Association. He has been recognized as a “Key Lawyer” for Corporate Restructuring & Insolvency in London by Legal 500 (2021-2025). In 2022, he won TMA’s NextGen Professional of the Year award. Jakeob was also recognised by Lawyers Weekly 30 under 30 in 2016.

Experience

  • Nostrum: Counsel to the ad hoc group of noteholders on the US $1.125 billion financial restructuring of Nostrum Oil & Gas plc, an oil and gas exploration and production company operating in Kazakhstan.
  • Fortenova: Counsel to Fortenova Group, a food producer and retailer in Croatia and the surrounding region, on issues arising from the existence of sanctioned Russian debt and equity holders in its capital structure.
  • Seadrill: Counsel to the ad hoc group of bondholders in relation to the first financial restructuring of Seadrill Limited and on the restructuring via a Bermudan provisional liquidation and pre-pack chapter 11 of Seadrill New Finance (now called Paratus Energy) in 2022.
  • Valaris: UK counsel to the ad hoc committee of noteholders on the US $7.1 billion financial restructuring, Chapter 11 and English pre-pack administration of Valaris plc, an offshore drilling contractor.
  • Noble: UK counsel to the ad hoc group of guaranteed bondholders in relation to the US $4 billion financial restructuring and Chapter 11 of Noble Corporation plc, a UK offshore drilling contractor.
  • Digicel: Counsel to an ad hoc committee of holders on exchange offers made in respect of bonds issued by Digicel Group Limited, a mobile phone network provider operating across the Caribbean, Central America and Oceania regions.
  • Telford Offshore: Counsel to Nordic Trustee AS in respect of the bond amendment and new secured debt issuance of Telford Offshore Ltd, an international off shore service provider.
  • Sea Trucks: Counsel to Nordic Trustee on the $600 million bond restructuring, Bermudan provisional liquidation and receivership of the Sea Trucks Group, a provider of off shore installation, accommodation and marine support services to the oil & gas industry.
  • Avanti: Advised an ad hoc group of senior bondholders of Avanti Communications, a U.K.-listed satellite operator, on the group's new financing and debt-for-equity swap, involving an exchange offer and English scheme of arrangement.
  • Agrokor: Acted as independent international legal counsel in connection with the negotiation, agreement and implementation of the settlement plan in relation to Agrokor d.d. and its subsidiaries, under the Law on the Procedure of Extraordinary Administration in Companies of Systemic Importance for the Republic of Croatia. This process was a first for Croatia and involved a company of significant importance to Croatia and the Balkans.
