Cadwalader’s recent addition of Financial Restructuring partners Shai Schmidt in New York and Jakeob Brown in London, coming on the heels of a significant uptick in activity for the practice, garnered extensive coverage from the business and legal press, including Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and The American Lawyer.
In The American Lawyer article, “With Trio of Laterals, Hogan Lovells and Cadwalader Are Boosting Key Practices Ahead of Merger,” Financial Restructuring Group co-chair Doug Mintz pointed to the firm’s focus on “building a finance-driven restructuring platform to serve sophisticated secured lenders” and noted that “both Shai and Jakeob fit directly into that long-term strategy.”
Schmidt cited the upcoming merger as a “game changer given its global reach and fantastic attorneys across multiple fields” as a contributing factor in his decision to join Cadwalader.
In the WSJ Pro’s Daily Bankruptcy Briefing in The Wall Street Journal, Schmidt said he’s “long been impressed with the firm’s reputation for client service and innovation, and I believe my restructuring practice and the clients I represent in LMEs and in‐court bankruptcies will benefit tremendously” from his joining Cadwalader.
In the UK, The Lawyer’s “Cadwalader’s City turnover nears $75m ahead of HogLov merger” spotlighted the revenue increase in the firm’s London office in 2025. The publication also reported on the firm’s expanded restructuring practice, bolstered by the simultaneous hiring of Brown and Schmidt on both sides of the Atlantic.
