ION Analytics marked International Women’s Day by profiling a series of trailblazing women leaders across data privacy, cybersecurity, AI, private funds and anti-corruption law, including Cadwalader partner Angie Batterson. The feature highlights lawyers, advisors and consultants from around the world whose work in private equity, restructuring, M&A, hedge funds and related areas is shaping market practice and regulation.
Angie discusses the impact of recent National Association of Insurance Commissioners rule changes on insurance company investments into private equity structures and explains how, by digging into the new framework and engaging closely with clients, she was able to be “at the forefront of the profession when it came to structuring deals under the new rules” and to establish herself as a leading expert in the field.
She also reflects on a pivotal turning point early in her career when stepping in on a NAV deal for a colleague on vacation ultimately shifted her practice from leveraged finance to a focused NAV and insurance solutions platform, noting that “had I not pitched in and worked on that deal, I would not have the insurance solutions practice I have today.”
On mentoring, Angie emphasizes teaching junior attorneys not only how to be strong technicians but also how to build genuine relationships with their clients on both a personal and professional level, with the goal of helping them develop practices that are more sustainable and fulfilling over the long term.
