Cadwalader partner Nick Shiren was a featured speaker at Creditflux's CLO Symposium 2022, at which he discussed the core features of CRE CLOs as part of a fireside chat.

Shiren addressed several notable elements of the CRE CLO asset class, including:

  • How CRE CLOs compare to CMBS, other types of CLOs and other CRE funding tools;
  • Unique considerations in structuring a CRE CLO, including a cost-benefit analysis as compared to alternative funding methods;
  • Differences in bringing a CRE CLO to market in the U.S. versus Europe, with the latter likely involving the complexity of multi-jurisdictional loans; and
  • Core features of the first European CRE CLO that closed last year, the Starz CRE CLO, on which Cadwalader advised.
