Cadwalader’s Dorothy Auth Presents at NYIPLA Patent Seminar

November 15, 2022

Cadwalader Intellectual Property partner Dr. Dorothy Auth was a featured speaker last week at the New York Intellectual Property Law Association’s (NYIPLA) annual patent CLE seminar.

Dorothy’s panel, “Significant Emerging Issues in Patent Law,” addressed evolving areas of patent law that impact attorneys’ daily practice.

The discussion with co-panelists encompassed AI in patent law, IPR estoppel issues, enablement in patent disclosures, and the inventorship dispute surrounding ground-breaking CRISPR DNA editing technology.

The CRISPR case, which is currently on appeal at the Federal Circuit, “presents the issue of what is required to have a complete conception,” Auth said. Underscoring its inherent complexity, she noted that while the Patent & Trademark Board of Appeals (PTAB) found for the Harvard inventors, the Nobel prize has been awarded to the University of California and University of Vienna inventors.
