Cadwalader Named 2022 GlobalCapital ‘CMBS Law Firm of the Year’ and Advised on CMBS & CLO ‘Deals of the Year’

September 19, 2022

Cadwalader was named “CMBS Law Firm of the Year” as part of the GlobalCapital 2022 U.S. Securitization awards. As the leading law firm in the U.S. commercial mortgage securitization space, Cadwalader has ranked first in the CMBS issuer-counsel league tables for 22 consecutive years.

The firm was also the advisor on two winning transactions:

- CMBS Deal of the Year: VMC Finance 2021-HT1

Cadwalader represented Värde Partners as issuer of $400 million of CRE CLO notes backed by a pool of $500 million of commercial real estate mortgage loans secured exclusively by hospitality properties. The transaction is the first-ever CRE CLO issuance backed entirely by hospitality loans. Advising Värde on the issuance of the CRE CLO notes was a Cadwalader team led by Capital Markets partner Jeffrey Rotblat, and special counsels Ron Lanning and Matthew Pawling, counsel Dante Amenta, and included Tax partner Gary Silverstein.

- Middle Market CLO Deal of the Year: Blackrock DLF-VIII-L CLO

Cadwalader advised Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC, as lead manager, placement agent and initial purchaser in the $220,000,000 BlackRock DLF-VIII-L CLO Trust transaction. The CLO was collateralized by a single loan made to TCP DLF VIII-L Funding, L.P., which entity owes a portfolio of middle market loans. The CLO utilized this unique pass-through structure to solve for complex, multi-national regulatory and tax restrictions. Cadwalader’s team was led by partners Gregg Jubin and Joseph Beach and assisted by counsel Lorien Golaski and associates Cassidy Nolan and Evan Bloom.

Cadwalader’s Capital Markets practice, including attorneys in New York, Charlotte, Washington, D.C., and London, is recognized as a premier global legal advisor in securitization and structured finance.
