April 24, 2023

Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP has expanded its Leveraged Finance and Private Credit team with the addition today of leading finance partner Smridhi Gulati in London.

Gulati joins Cadwalader from Dechert in the latest in a series of high-profile additions to the practice. London partners Matthew Smith and Bevis Metcalfe joined in 2022, and a four-partner, U.S.-based team – Ronald Lovelace, Patrick Yingling, Jared Zajac and Joseph Polonsky – joined in January. Also recently joining the group in London was ESG Finance and Investment partner Sukhvir Basran and special counsel Andrew Vickers.

Gulati advises private credit funds, banks, private equity sponsors and corporate borrowers on domestic and international leveraged and acquisition finance transactions. She also has considerable experience in executing and restructuring complex private credit transactions at all levels of the capital structure.

“Smridhi is a highly regarded finance partner, with considerable experience in complex private credit transactions,” said Cadwalader managing partner Pat Quinn. “She is a perfect complement to our existing capabilities.”

Added London managing partner Gregory Petrick: “Our Leveraged Finance and Private Credit practice in London has been extremely busy and has quickly become a go-to practice for the Private Credit fund community. Smridhi adds further firepower to our group, and we’re excited about the prospect of her teaming up with Matt to help lead the continued growth of our Private Credit practice in Europe. Her addition will also help us to continue capitalizing on the significant synergies with our other market-leading practices, such as Capital Markets, Fund Finance, Real Estate Finance and Fund Formation.

“Our firm continues to be very bullish on the growth of Private Credit,” said Finance Group co-chair Wes Misson. “Smridhi is a leading private credit practitioner in Europe. Her addition bolsters our transatlantic capabilities in the space and complements our broad offering of other lending product expertise. It’s a huge win for our clients.”

Added Cadwalader Finance Group co-chair Bonnie Neuman: “Smridhi provides yet another boost to our growing Private Credit practice. We will benefit from her deep expertise, and we are excited to welcome her to Cadwalader.”

“I am thrilled to be joining the Cadwalader team in London,” Gulati said. “Cadwalader is committed to building out a dominant private credit practice, and to be able to join forces with Matt and lead that growth together couldn't be more compelling or exciting for me.”

In addition to its expanded leveraged finance and private credit team, Cadwalader has experienced a number of significant partner additions in the U.S. and London over the past year, including: Alix Prentice in financial regulatory in London; Gina Castellano, Martin Weinstein Jeffrey Clark, Kenneth Breen, Phara Guberman and Helen Maher in Global Litigation; Michael Pinnisi and Kiran Kadekar in Corporate; Andrew Carlon and Jon Brose in Tax; Michael Rupe in special situations/financial restructuring; Ryan McNaughton and Angela Batterson in Finance; and Peter Malyshev and Mercedes Tunstall in financial services.
