Senior Analyst – Profitability and Pricing

Senior Analyst - Pricing and Profitability, Reporting to the Director of Profitability and Pricing is a key member of our financial planning team. The role will assist in driving the execution of the Firm’s pricing and profitability strategies. The role will ensure effective pricing and matter management efforts undertaken by the Firm. This position works closely with firm leadership, partners of the firm and members of the finance department.


  • Work closely with Director of Profitability and Pricing, firm management, and Partners to further implement the firm’s profitability strategies.
  • Assist with matter management oversight to preserve and find areas to improve the firm’s profit margins through analysis.
  • Utilize existing models, tools and systems to aid and support the team in pricing and matter management efforts.
  • Perform in-depth analysis using excel and other tools to identify observations and recommendations of how individual partners can improve the profitability of their businesses.
  • Produce and run pricing scenario modeling for future bids by combining specific criteria with prior work models.
  • Gather relevant matter data intelligence for use in knowledge management and future pricing, project budgets and analysis.
  • Support Partners and the Business Development department with client proposals and RFP/RFI by providing relevant financial data, such as rates and alternative or innovative pricing arrangements.
  • Manage and actively track pricing arrangements in a central database – both bespoke and institutional agreements – so that the firm stays current on all bill rate increase opportunities available.
  • Perform additional ad hoc projects and analysis at the direction of Director of Profitability and Pricing and other members of firm management on a regular basis.


Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field with 5-7 years of experience as a financial analyst – preferably, but not limited to, within law firms or professional services firms. Secondary degree, such as an MBA, CFA, or CPA is a plus.

Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, V-lookups, Macros), and PowerPoint. Must be able to work within, improve upon and build financial models and tools in Excel. Tableau, SQL or other data management / Power BI experience a plus.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as client memos and engagement terms, as well as legal service contracts, invoices, bills, and client correspondence. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with firm partners and all levels of professional and support staff of the Firm. Ability to maintain confidentiality and composure within a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Must be able to physically work from Cadwalader’s New York office for at least three days a week (Tuesday – Thursday), with Mondays and Fridays being remote work.
