Information Governance Technology Manager

REPORTS TO: Director of Information Governance
WORK HOURS FOR POSITION: Exempt position. Due to the nature of the work associated with this position, it may require additional time beyond the standard work week.

The Information Governance Technology Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation, management, and optimization of technology solutions that support the firm's information governance (IG) framework. This role ensures that all electronic records and information management systems are effectively integrated, secure, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements as well as the firm’s IG policies and best practices. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for data analytics and assists the Director of Information Governance with Master Data Management functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads the implementation and management of technology solutions that support the firm's IG framework, including electronic records management systems, data governance tools, and compliance software.
  • Collaborates with IT, legal, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of IG technology solutions across the firm.
  • Assists in the development and enforcement of IG policies and procedures for the secure and compliant management of electronic records and information.
  • Conducts regular audits and assessments of IG technology systems to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists the IG Director in providing training and support to staff on the use of IG technology solutions and best practices for managing electronic records.
  • Monitors and evaluates emerging technologies and trends in information governance to recommend and implement improvements to the firm's IG framework.
  • Produces metrics and reports on the performance and effectiveness of IG technology solutions as requested by firm management.
  • Manages relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure the delivery of high-quality IG technology solutions.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of the firm's overall IG strategy.
  • Responsible for data analytics, including the analysis and reporting of data to support decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Assists the Director of Information Governance with Master Data Manager functions, which include creating and maintaining a single master record for each person, place, or thing in the firm. This involves de-duplicating, reconciling, and enriching data to ensure it is consistent and reliable.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with staff and other users development.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in analyzing structured and unstructured data
  • Experience with data governance platforms (e.g. Varonis, Shinydocs, ActiveNav 360, or similar)
  • Proficiency in running SQL queries for data analysis, reporting, and troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of information governance principles, including data classification, retention, and defensible disposition
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA)
  • Experience managing enterprise content systems (e.g., iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint)
  • Ability to lead cross-functional projects involving IT, legal, and compliance teams
  • Experience with client collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Slack, HighQ, or similar) to support secure communication and document sharing
  • Experience with secure file transfer platforms (e.g. Kiteworks, ShareFile, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in a law firm or legal services environment
  • Experience managing staff or leading a team
  • Experience implementing or managing DLP (Data Loss Prevention) tools
  • Familiarity with legal matter lifecycle and metadata structures
  • Experience with legal tech integrations (e.g., billing, docketing, document management)
  • Background in change management or training related to IG policies
  • Experience with cloud migration projects involving sensitive legal data
  • Certifications such as IGP, CIP, CIPP, COBIT 5 or PMP
  • Bachelor's degree

JOB CONDITIONS:

  • Exempt position.
  • Considerable time spent at a computer terminal, reviewing small print, and on the phone or Zoom/MS Teams.
  • Will be expected to attend (at firm’s expense and approval) seminars and courses for continuing education.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $135,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location from which the applicant will be performing the job.
