Work/Life Balance

At Cadwalader, we have implemented numerous programs and initiatives designed to facilitate a healthy work/life balance for our attorneys, including:

  • Back-Up Childcare and Eldercare (In-Home and Center Based)
  • Primary Caregiver Mentoring Program
  • Coaching Program for Primary Caregivers
  • Flexible Work Program
  • Mothers Rooms
  • User Friendly Parental Leave Brochure and New Parent Packs

The firm’s industry-leading primary-caregiver leave policy, the Flexible Work Program, provides eighteen weeks of paid parental leave, followed by, upon request, an additional four weeks of PTO leave and a further two weeks of unpaid leave.  Adoptive primary care parents are entitled to up to six weeks of paid adoption leave, followed by, upon request, additional PTO leave and unpaid leave.  The firm also offers alternative work schedules to accommodate the challenging and often conflicting priorities of primary caregivers. In addition, we have adopted an “80% return to work program,” under which the firm offers  primary caregivers the option to return to work on a reduced (80%) schedule for a three-month period. This program is separate from the firm’s alternative work schedule policy and is available to all primary caregivers.

The Taskforce for the Advancement of Women, along with the Women’s Leadership Initiative, is focused on ensuring that the attorneys who utilize the benefits and alternative work schedules described above remain eligible for promotion to equity partner.
