James Saeli’s practice is largely focused on the tax aspects of investment vehicles, specifically mortgage-backed and other asset-backed securitizations.  He routinely represents issuers, underwriters and other parties in REMICs, grantor trusts and CLOs, as well as municipal bond securitization trusts.  James also works closely with Cadwalader’s real estate group in the origination of commercial loans for securitization.

In addition, James is involved in Cadwalader’s Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits practice, including issues relating to mergers, acquisitions and bankruptcy. James has experience representing both executives and employers in negotiating and drafting executive employment agreements.

As an accredited attorney with the Department of Veterans Affairs, James is dedicated to pro bono representation of veterans appealing denial of benefits claims.

James is a member of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association and the Tax Section of the New York State Bar Association.

He graduated with a B.A. in History from the State University of New York at Buffalo, cum laude, received his J.D. from Cornell Law School, and earned his LL.M in Taxation from NYU School of Law. Prior to completing his B.A., James served on active duty in the United States Air Force from 2002 until 2006, receiving an honorable discharge after achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
