Cadwalader’s Joseph Facciponti was one of the featured panelists at Sandpiper Partners LLC’s recent half-day summit on the biggest and most challenging topics in trade secrets protection.
The program featured a variety of presentations designed to help ensure companies are prepared. Facciponti, a special counsel in Cadwalader’s Global Litigation Group, focused his comments on “Investigation and Litigation Issues.” Other topics discussed at the summit included: “An Overview of DTSA and its Interplay with State Trade Secrets Statutes and “Strategic Considerations and Preventative Strategies for Protection of Trade Secrets.”
“Almost every business owns proprietary information that provides a competitive advantage because the information is unknown to their competitors,” Facciponti said. “Trade secret law protects such information from theft or disclosure. However, because of technology such as camera-equipped cellphones and thumb drives, it has become easier than ever for employees, to take and distribute confidential information. In developing a plan to secure and protect your trade secrets, it is important to be proactive and preventative.”
Prior to joining Cadwalader, Facciponti held an executive-level position in the legal department of HSBC Holdings and was an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where he handled complex and high-profile cases involving financial crime, computer hacking, and intellectual property theft.
Cadwalader’s Cyber and National Security Practice represents clients operating across a range of industry sectors with security sensitivities, such as financial institutions; financial services providers; technology and security companies; aerospace and defense companies; industrials; oil, gas, petrochemical and wind conglomerates; telecommunications suppliers and providers; transportation carriers; trading entities; global marketplace service companies; news organizations; and sovereign wealth funds.
