RAGA Healthcare Symposium, January 23-24, 2020, Miami, Florida

Without knowing that a pandemic was on the horizon, RAGA met for a timely two-day roundtable discussion presented by the Rule of Law Defense Fund. The agenda was devoted to healthcare policy and its future in light of many of the proposals that were being bandied about during the presidential primaries. 

CWAG Chair’s Initiative & Binational Attorney General Exchange, January 13-15, 2020, Santa Fe, New Mexico

CWAG Chair and New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas focused his initiative on how the use of technology could improve social justice. Attorney General Balderas illuminated how cybersecurity programs and protocols may be repurposed for the protection of children, families and consumers, particularly in terms of data privacy and human trafficking. 

DAGA Winter Policy Conference, November 20-21, 2019, New Orleans, Louisiana

Twenty Democratic Attorneys General descended upon New Orleans for DAGA’s Winter Policy conference. Attorneys General William Tong (Connecticut), Clare Connors (Hawaii), Dana Nessel (Michigan) and Josh Kaul (Wisconsin) shared their insights on a panel discussing successes and challenges in working with local government. The keynote lunch featured Rob Tadlock, Associate General Counsel at Patagonia, in a discussion about corporate environmental responsibility. A panel of national political consultants dazzled the audience with their prognosis of the presidential race and useful messaging as DAGA prepares for 2020 state Attorney General races. Now that RAGA and DAGA have tragically decided to attack incumbent state Attorneys General seats, much discussion was focused on maintaining the seats held by Attorneys General Josh Stein (North Carolina) and Josh Shapiro (Pennsylvania). Finally, in Democratic circles, many are buzzing about former state Attorneys General Catherine Cortez Masto (Nevada), Kamala Harris (California), who is mentioned on the shortlist of vice presidential hopefuls, and Steve Bullock (Montana) running for the Senate.

RAGA Fall National Meeting, November 16-19, 2019, Scottsdale, Arizona

Twenty-one Republican Attorneys General and two Attorneys General-elect attended RAGA’s 2019 Fall National meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. RAGA members heard from leaders on issues including healthcare, anti-boycott divestment and sanctions, labor reform and the future of the federal judiciary. RAGA celebrated its 20th anniversary with a recommitment to its purpose and principles. Attorneys General-elect Daniel Cameron (Kentucky) and Lynn Fitch (Mississippi) were in particularly high demand as RAGA members clamored to introduce themselves and their representative companies to them. 

NAAG Fall Consumer Protection Conference, November 5-7, 2019, Omaha, Nebraska

NAAG held its fall Consumer Protection conference during the first week of November in Omaha. This biannual conference draws the Consumer Protections Chiefs and their staffs to discuss major multistate and trending consumer-centric issues. The public portion of the conference, held on the first day, included a deep dive into the regulation and legal status of CBD and hemp products; data security issues; and the emerging marketplace for payment applications. Generals Tom Miller (Iowa), Kwame Raoul (Illinois) and Gordon MacDonald (New Hampshire) attended and added their insights on recent consumer protection issues.
