Pro Bono Victory

The Firm is extremely proud of New York associate Dillon Carlin for obtaining asylum approval in the United States for a pro bono client who was referred to us by Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS) in December of 2022.

Over the past year, Dillon worked with our client, a former member of the Afghan military, to secure asylum in the U.S. due to the harm that he would face at the hands of the Taliban were he to return to Afghanistan. The risk of harm to our client was apparent from the first meeting, where he showed Dillon threatening Facebook messages that he received from a member of the Taliban warning him not to return home. After finally receiving his asylum approval earlier this year, our client expressed his gratitude to the Cadwalader team and is looking forward to celebrating with them soon.

Thank you to partner Ellen Holloman for serving as supervising partner and to New York associates Victor Celis and Michael Glenn for their assistance on this matter.
