Cadwalader today announced that Peter C. Morreale has joined the firm as a Capital Markets partner in Washington, DC.
Morreale arrives from Goldman Sachs & Co., where he was Managing Director and Associate General Counsel in the Mortgages-Legal group. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Morreale was a partner in the securitization practice at McKee Nelson LLP and also worked as associate general counsel at Fannie Mae Corporation.
“Peter comes to Cadwalader with many years of experience advising external and internal clients on asset-backed securities,” said Cadwalader managing partner Pat Quinn. “He is a roll-up-the-sleeves kind of lawyer who has worked in the trenches across virtually every asset class and has provided exceptional service to his clients.”
Said Michael Gambro, Co-Chair of Cadwalader’s Capital Markets Group, “Peter has an all-star background, starting with his time at McKee Nelson and continuing through his most recent work at Goldman Sachs.”
Added Cadwalader Capital Markets Group Co-Chair Stuart Goldstein, “Peter is joining a market-leading securitization practice, and we anticipate that clients will welcome his deep knowledge in this space.”
Morreale had been at Goldman Sachs since 2011 and focused on providing legal coverage for structures and businesses across consumer loans, student loans, automotive loans, residential mortgage loans and related servicing assets, aircraft and related leases, corporate loan obligations, franchise rights and receivables, solar assets, single-family rental assets, wireless spectrum, entertainment royalties, drug royalties and licenses and triple net leases.
“Cadwalader is an undisputed market leader in securitization,” Morreale said. “Having seen the industry from both the business side and as a lawyer advising clients, I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue to expand the firm’s capabilities in this area.”
Morreale’s arrival is a continuation of Cadwalader’s strategy of bolstering key practices. In recent months, partner David Teigman joined the firm in the Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits practice; partner Steven Baker joined the firm to lead litigation and international arbitration efforts in London; Jason Halper, a former partner of Cadwalader, rejoined the New York office as Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Litigation Group; and Joseph Facciponti, a former federal prosecutor with significant experience in the financial industry, also joined the firm in New York.
Cadwalader’s Capital Markets Group includes attorneys in New York, Charlotte and London. The team advises clients on a broad range of transactions, including warehousing loans, structuring debt and mainstream CMBS, as well as commercial real estate CLOs and distressed-asset securitizations. Last month Cadwalader was recognized as the “Top Underwriter Counsel for U.S. CLOs,” topping the Asset-Backed Alert rankings for 2016. The firm also was named “Top CLO Arranger Counsel” in the Creditflux Scrolls of Excellence for 2016, and was “highly commended” by the Financial Times, which cited the firm’s role in the first CLO structures to facilitate financings by asset managers under both European and U.S. risk retention rules.
