Cadwalader partner Jason Schwartz was a featured speaker at Practising Law Institute’s “Taxation of Financial Products & Transactions 2022” event, which addressed a range of topics involving the tax rules governing financial products and transactions.

Schwartz was joined by other industry leaders on the panel, "Financial Services Industry Update," that discussed the following topics:

  • Withholding tax and mark-to-market issues for cryptocurrencies, with a focus on whether crypto tokens are commodities for tax purposes.
  • The taxation of financial products with ESG components.

Schwartz represents banks, funds, investment managers, insurers and other parties in connection with tax issues relating to CLOs, catastrophe bonds, ABS transactions, REMICs and other securitizations, risk retention structures, hedge funds, private equity funds, “treaty” funds and other investment funds, structured notes, swaps and other derivatives, lending transactions and corporate matters.
