Lieutenant General Flora D. Darpino, the 39th Judge Advocate General (TJAG) of the United States Army, will speak at Cadwalader's Washington, D.C., office on October 6.

During her presentation, Lieutenant General Darpino will discuss her nearly thirty-year military career, which has included domestic and international roles at some of the United States Army's most premier legal assignments, multiple combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as commander of The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School, and culminating in her selection as the first woman to hold the position of TJAG. She will also discuss the issues she has faced during her term, including the integration of women into combat roles, and the addressing of sexual assault and sexual harassment in the United States military.

“We are honored to host Lieutenant General Darpino, who has dealt with the most cutting-edge legal issues facing today’s post-9/11 military,” said Joseph Moreno, a partner in Cadwalader's White Collar Defense and Investigations Group. “In addition to being an outstanding lawyer and leader, General Darpino always has understood, acknowledged, and embraced her position as a trailblazer and role model for younger women in the JAG.”

The event is a coordinated effort between Cadwalader’s Veterans Network and Women’s Leadership Initiative. Cadwalader’s Veterans Affinity Network comprises more than 30 attorneys and staff in the firm’s New York, Washington, D.C., Charlotte and London offices dedicated to addressing issues important to military veterans, active-duty servicemembers, reservists and their families.  The Women’s Leadership Initiative is committed to unlocking the full potential of women practicing in the firm; advancing women to top leadership and professional roles; encouraging the mentoring, networking, recruitment, promotion, sponsorship, training and career planning of women attorneys; and uniting to help women in need through signature pro bono projects.
