We are deeply saddened to report the passing of William (Bill) Schwartz, a counsel in the firm for nearly 30 years.
Bill was a true giant in the legal industry. He joined the firm in 1988 after a notable career in academia. He was the Dean of the School of Law at Boston University, where he had graduated first in his law school class years earlier. He also served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Yeshiva University, Professor of Law at Boston University and a faculty member of Harvard Medical School's Frances Glessner Lee Institute. At the time of his passing, Bill was a university professor at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
An acknowledged thought leader in the legal industry, Bill authored 18 books and 55 articles.
“Bill Schwartz was a remarkable lawyer, teacher, mentor and, above all, a remarkable person,” said managing partner Pat Quinn. “He had an amazing legal mind and was revered by his colleagues, clients and students. Above all, Bill was an extremely gentle and humble person. For all his accomplishments, perhaps his most important legacy is the lasting impact he had on the many generations of students and colleagues whom he inspired and guided over the years. He will be sorely missed.”
