Jodi Avergun to share insights on FCPA investigations and compliance at June 1 event

Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP (Cadwalader), a leading counselor to global financial institutions and corporations, today announced that Jodi Avergun, a partner in the firm’s Business Fraud and White Collar Defense Litigation Practice, will be participating in a live webcast entitled “FCPA Issues in 2012 Dodd-Frank and Beyond” with The Knowledge Congress, LLC on June 1, 2012 from 12 – 2 pm.

The webinar will examine the impact of the whistleblower provisions under the Dodd-Frank Act on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) issues and investigations. The panel will take an in-depth look at this topic and related issues, including the new SEC whistleblower rules and their implications for FCPA investigations, recent court decisions on FCPA violations and guidelines on implementing a compliance program. Joining Avergun at this event are Douglas Small, Managing Director at Capstone Advisory Group LLC, and Manny A. Alas, Global Co-Leader, FCPA Practice, New York Leader, Forensic Services Practice at Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

“The new Dodd-Frank whistleblower provisions are radically changing the way FCPA violations are being reported and are having a significant impact on companies’ decisions to disclose potential FCPA violations,” remarked Avergun. “It is essential that companies adjust to meet the new regulatory landscape. Our webinar will provide many of the tools needed to do so.”

Avergun is an experienced former federal prosecutor whose practice focuses on representing corporations and individuals in criminal and regulatory matters involving, among other things, FCPA, securities enforcement, health care, and general white collar matters. She has successfully represented both companies and senior executives in internal investigations, matters before regulatory bodies including the SEC and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and in civil and criminal matters in federal court. Avergun has also designed and implemented compliance programs for a variety of her clients.

Prior to joining the firm, Avergun was a senior official in the Department of Justice, where she served as chief of staff of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and in several leadership positions within the Criminal Division and the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.
