In September, the Firm had the pleasure of hosting Jennifer Levi, the Senior Director of Transgender and Queer Rights for GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), and Scott McCoy, the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Interim Deputy Legal Director for Inclusion and Anti-Extremism Litigation, for our Civil Rights Series: Battling Hate State by State. The presentation was an eye-opening and informative discussion on the strategy of challenging anti-transgender laws.

In honor of Hunger Action Month, volunteers from our D.C. office spent a morning in September preparing 400+ sandwiches that were delivered to Martha’s Table. Martha’s Table stands firmly alongside Washingtonians, day-in and day-out on both sides of the Anacostia River, by operating nationally accredited education programs, pairing healthy food access with physical and mental health services, and promoting family success by investing in family leaders. You can see the event photos here.

Congratulations to partner Alan Lawrence, who was recently elected to Board Chair for Puppies Behind Bars (PBB). For 25 years, PBB has meant so much to so many—from the veterans and first responders who benefit from the companionship and skills of the service dogs, to the incarcerated individuals who help to train the dogs as puppies.

Congratulations are also in order for associate Jaclyn Hall who received Barrier Free Living’s (BFL) inaugural Jack Fritts Mission Impact Award. This award recognizes the outstanding pro bono or volunteer contributions of an individual whose dedicated services and exceptional commitment fulfill the mission of Barrier Free Living. The award honors the memory of former Cadwalader partner, the late Jack Fritts, who formerly served as BFL’s Board Chair.

It is a privilege to celebrate accomplishments like these!
