In celebration of Pride Month this past June, the Firm hosted a Civil Rights Series program, “Pride: He/Him/Swim,” a conversation with Schuyler Bailar, the first transgender athlete on any NCAA Division 1 men’s team. Schuyler talked very openly about his personal experiences and his journey, sharing childhood photos, mixing in down-to-earth humor and offering very personal and heartfelt comments on his personal challenges and on the challenges faced by the transgender community.

In the wake of George Floyd’s death, at least 23 of Charlotte’s largest law firms have formed the Carolinas Social Impact Initiative (CSII), a Charlotte-based program created to foster a more inclusive community and reduce systemic barriers to social and economic mobility in the Carolinas. Cadwalader was among the first firms to join the initiative, and Charlotte office Managing Partner Stuart Goldstein serves as a member of the executive committee of the CSII.

Dating back to 2012, Cadwalader has participated in a diversity pipeline program with Legal Outreach and NJ LEEP through which high school students have the opportunity to intern at some of New York’s and New Jersey’s top law firms, public interest organizations, and financial institutions, as well as to work directly with judges for up to five weeks during the summer before their sophomore year of high school.

After a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit Haiti on August 14th, the Firm put out a call to all of its offices to participate in a “Haiti Earthquake Relief Drive” coordinated by New York State Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, the first Haitian American woman elected in New York City.
