The American Lawyer Corporate Scorecard

Cadwalader consistently tops the American Lawyer Corporate Scorecard in the categories of mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities.  The Corporate Scorecard tracks the transactional practices of leading law firms. It includes data on public, registered, underwritten offerings or deals that occurred in the preceding calendar year.

Benchmark Litigation 2012: The Definitive Guide to America’s Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys recognized Cadwalader as a “highly recommended” litigation firm and several of the firm’s litigators were cited as “stars." The firm garnered National Rankings in Antitrust, Bankruptcy, General Commercial, Insurance, and Securities, and was named as “Highly Recommended” for Litigation in New York. Partners Gregory Markel, Louis Solomon, Jason Halper, Christopher Hughes, Peter Moll, and Charles (“Rick”) Rule all achieved national “litigation star” status in their respective areas of practice. Cadwalader's Asia Managing Partner and a member of the firm's Corporate Department, Rocky T. Lee, earned a top-tier Band 1 rank in the area of Private Equity - Venture Capital Investment among international law firms in the 2011 edition of Chambers Asia.

The 2011 edition of Chambers UK found London partners Adam Blakemore, Angus Duncan, Richard Nevins and Nick Shiren to be among the leading individuals in capital markets (structured finance, securitisation and derivatives), corporate restructuring and insolvency and tax. Angus received praise for being "very well informed about securities law and is able to bring creative ideas to the table" and key clients of Adam remarked that he "understands the technical aspects of a deal in great detail." The directory emphasized how Nick Shiren is very well regarded for his work on financing transactions involving a range of asset classes, and Richard Nevins' clients remarked that he "knows what we're after and how to get it."

Cadwalader ranked as one of New York City's largest area law firms in Crain's annual Book of Lists 2011.

Financial Times Innovative Lawyers

Cadwalader is ranked among the 25 Most Innovative Law Firms in the Financial Times "US Innovative Lawyers 2011" report. The firm also ranked among top law firms in technology, media and telecom for work on Microsoft's antitrust cases and as a highly commended firm in finance for development of new deal structures in the CMBS market.

Cadwalader received top recognition from the Financial Times in its inaugural US Innovative Lawyers Report. The firm was one of only three firms ranked as "standout" for exceptional work in 2010 in the automotive sector for advising the U.S. Treasury Department Presidential Auto Task Force in the historic restructuring of General Motors and Chrysler and in the restructuring category for its work on the chapter 11 of petrochemical giant LyondellBasell. The US Innovative Lawyers report is a collaboration between the FT, a premier global publication covering international business and politics, and RSG Consulting. Cadwalader was named as a "Go-To Law Firm" for Leading Technology Companies based on a survey of the firms that general counsel at leading technology companies most often turn to for assistance.

International Financial Law Review

The 2012 edition of IFLR 1000 ranked Cadwalader among the top firms in the United States in several core areas of the firm’s practice, including Bank Lending; Capital Markets – Structured Finance and Securitization; Capital Markets – Derivatives; Financial Services Regulatory; Mergers and Acquisitions; and Restructuring and Insolvency.  The firm was also ranked in Capital Markets and Restructuring in the United Kingdom.

Lawdragon

Gregory A. Markel was named among Lawdragon's Top 500 Leading Lawyers. The list, which represents less than 1% of the profession, was based on a combination of written submissions, online votes and comments, and editorial research by Lawdragon staff.  Thirteen Cadwalader lawyers were named to the Lawdragon 3000 list.

More than 15 Cadwalader practices were recognized and 47 lawyers were singled out for their legal skills and experience in the 2012 US Legal 500 Guide. The firm was recommended in the areas of Structured Finance, where it earned top tier status; Asset Finance and Leasing; Bank Lending; Corporate Restructuring; Financial Services; Energy Litigation; Energy Regulatory; Patent Litigation; Alternative/Hedge Funds; Securities Shareholder Litigation; White Collar Criminal Defense; Antitrust (M&A); Mergers & Acquisition Large Deals; Real Estate; Domestic Tax; and Financial Products Tax. 

The 2012 U.K. edition of the Legal 500 recognized Cadwalader for leadership in the areas of corporate restructuring & insolvency, derivatives & structured products,and securitization. In corporate restructuring & insolvency, the directory highlighted Richard Nevins work as advisor to the ad hoc committee of eircom FRN creditors and also for his cross-border work on Chapter 11 cases with English law dimensions. Legal 500 also noted the derivatives and structured products team’s work advising Natixis on a $270m cat bond issue. Nick Shiren’s work as representative to many issuers of structured bonds in relation to the bankruptcy of their collateral mangers also received praise and the directory commented that Senior Associate, Robert Cannon, is both “resourceful and client orientated’. In securitization, the directory highlighted Angus Duncan’s successful representation of Irish SPV issuers on three static securitizations, including advising Capital Efficiency Group on participation agreements with German borrowers. Nick Shiren’s advisory work for senior creditors in relation to distressed CDOs was noted and the directory praised the firm’s newest recruit, Stephen Day, remarking that he is is"mentally agile, particularly on complex cross-jurisdictional matters."

The Managing Partners' Forum

The Managing Partners' Forum named Cadwalader to its annual Global 500 list, a ranking of the world's largest professional firms. The rankings are based on total earnings and included firms in the fields of law, accounting, management consultants, technology services, marketing services, design, and investment banking.

Super Lawyers

The 2011 Washington, D.C. edition of Super Lawyers selected eight Cadwalader partners. The D.C. edition selected lawyers in the areas of Antitrust Litigation, Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights, Business Litigation, Corporate Governance & Compliance, Criminal Defense: White Collar, Energy & Natural Resources, Intellectual Property, and Securities Litigation.

The 2011 metropolitan New York edition of the publication recognized more than 40 Cadwalader attorneys in 20 different practice areas. Tax Directors

The Tax Directors Handbook has named Tax Department Chair Linda Z. Swartz among the leading 250 tax lawyers in the world as recommended by clients. The 2010 edition of the handbook analyzes the tax capabilities of law firms in 46 jurisdictions, details the firms ranked by size of tax group, and highlights the top 250 individual tax advisers in the world.

U.S. News/Best Lawyers

U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers In America have recognized Cadwalader as a leader in various major practices, both nationally and in several metropolitan areas.

Nationally, Cadwalader placed in the first tier in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law; Derivatives and Futures Law; and Securitization and Structured Finance Law; and in the second tier in Tax Law.

In metropolitan rankings in New York, the firm placed first in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law, Derivatives and Futures Law, Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law, and Securitization and Structured Finance Law. Second tier rankings were secured in Equipment Finance Law, Tax Law, and Trusts & Estates Law while General Commercial Litigation earned third and Corporate, Intellectual Property, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Real Estate placed fourth. In Washington, the Antitrust Law and Criminal Defense / White-Collar practices placed in the second tier; a third tier ranking was had in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law and the fourth tier included in Securities / Capital Markets Law. United States Lawyers

Cadwalader partners David S. Miller and Christopher A. Hughes have been named among the nation's top lawyers by the 2011 United States Lawyer Rankings. David ranked first in the country in Tax while Chris ranked second in Intellectual Property. This edition marks David's sixth consecutive appearance in the top Tax spot; Chris has appeared in the rankings for four consecutive years. Lawyers are nominated for inclusion in the United States Lawyer Rankings by members of the Bar, Judiciary and by the senior management of large corporate and institutional clients. The United States Lawyer Rankings was established by a consortium of United States corporations to recognize lawyers who have consistently provided the highest degree of legal representation.

The Washingtonian

The December 2011 issue of Washingtonian magazine named Rick Rule among the top lawyers in Antitrust. The Washingtonian compiles its list of top lawyers relying heavily on peer recommendations, asking attorneys who set the standard in his or her field. Washingtonian's list represents the top one percent of lawyers in D.C.
