Cadwalader special counsel Joseph Facciponti was a panelist at the “Hot Topics in Cyber Risk” conference hosted by Sandpiper Partners in New York on January 26.
Facciponti, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York who handled complex and high-profile cases involving financial crime, computer hacking and intellectual property theft, joined a panel of experts featuring representatives of federal agencies, cybersecurity counsel at major corporations, and academics. The speakers explored pressing issues concerning privacy and data security, including strategic and ethical challenges in cyber investigations; cyber risk governance and accountability; managing cybersecurity risks from insiders and third party service providers; and how to comply with state, national, and international cybersecurity and data protection regimes.
“As more and more business activity occurs online,” said Facciponti, “corporate computer networks are becoming ever-more attractive targets for cyber thieves. It’s understandable, and encouraging, to see a rapidly increasing number of general counsel who are focused on identifying these threats and the measures they can take to mitigate their exposure.”
Facciponti represents corporations, financial institutions and individuals in investigations, regulatory enforcement actions, and litigation concerning white collar crimes, computer crimes and commercial disputes.
Cadwalader’s Cyber and National Security Practice represents clients operating across a range of industry sectors with security sensitivities, such as financial institutions; financial services providers; technology and security companies; aerospace and defense companies; industrials; oil, gas, petrochemical and wind conglomerates; telecommunications suppliers and providers; transportation carriers; trading entities; global marketplace service companies; news organizations; and sovereign wealth funds.
