Sweet DreamsóCadwalader Sleep-Out Team Raises Over $21,000 for Covenant House
The Cadwalader team had a safe and successful (and snowy) Sleep Out on Friday night, March 20, in support of the Covenant House. Covenant House provides food, shelter and essential services to homeless youth. The New York and New Jersey programs served more than 7,000 kids last year.
The team, comprising Alex Cotter, Saadia Ghazi, Monica Harris, Theresa Perkins, Brittany Schulman and Kayshree Seshadri, raised $21,193 – ranking third among the 51 participating organizations. The total amount raised by the Young Professionals Sleep-Out event came to more than $450,000, which will be used to provide training and jobs for 400 youth at the Covenant House.
The Cadwalader team began the evening with a visit to the Covenant House shelter, meeting the kids and listening to their stories. The team then hit the snow-filled streets of NYC with cardboard boxes and spent the night on the pavement. In addition to raising funds and awareness, the Young Professionals Sleep-Out is intended to convey to the children at Covenant House that their stories are important and that people care enough to understand what they are faced with.
Cadwalader participated in the event through the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI). The WLI, which strives to enrich Cadwalader’s culture and competitive strengths by promoting diversity, inclusion and fair meritocracy for women at the firm, is also dedicated to pro bono work and the sponsorship of non-profit organizations.
