Steven N. Cohen
Steven Cohen, resident in Cadwalader's New York and Charlotte offices, is a member of the firm's Corporate Department and Co-chair of its Finance Practice. His principal practice involves the representation of domestic and foreign commercial banks, investment banks, investment managers, and other financial institutions in a broad variety of complex financing transactions, including leveraged finance and other syndicated bank loan transactions; the financing of financial assets; structured financings of alternative assets; credit opportunity financings; commodity finance; domestic and cross-border hedge fund financings; credit enhancement transactions; loan and distressed debt trading, including the acquisition of portfolios of performing and nonperforming loans; and rescue financings, workouts, debtor-in-possession financings, and exit financings. He also serves as a member of the firm's Legal Opinions Committee and Co-Chair of the firm's Technology Committee.
Steve has been a partner at the firm since January 1993. Following law school, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Max Rosenn, Senior Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Among the many honors he has received, Steve has been named a leading lawyer by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers in the area of Banking and Finance, and by IFLR1000 in the area of Bank Lending.
A magna cum laude graduate of Wesleyan University, he received his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was Note and Comment Editor of the New York University Law Review. He also attended Lycee Classique Mixte, in Saintes, France, from which he received a baccalaureat with high honors.
Steve is a member of the American Bar Association and its Section of Business Law. He is admitted to practice in the States of New York and North Carolina.
