Stephanie J. Meltzer
Stephanie Meltzer is a partner in the Business Fraud and Complex Litigation Group in Cadwalader's New York office. Stephanie represents corporations, financial institutions, investment firms, and individuals in all aspects of criminal investigations and litigation, both pre- and post-indictment, as well as in complex civil litigation, including class, shareholders, whistleblower, and RICO actions in federal and state courts.
Stephanie has advised clients on a wide variety of criminal and civil business fraud and regulatory cases, including matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and public corruption; the money laundering, mail and wire fraud, false statement, antitrust, health care fraud and abuse, and environmental laws; the anti-fraud provisions of the securities statutes; the Federal False Claims Act; the criminal provisions of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code; and government procurement. She has also conducted internal investigations, advised with respect to corporate governance issues, and been involved in the implementation of compliance codes.
Stephanie has also advised on international money laundering and mutual assistance issues involving Switzerland, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, and the European Union.
Stephanie previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia where she oversaw and directed fraud investigations involving a variety of government agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of State, the Department of Labor, the Department of the Treasury, the Postal Inspection Service, the Secret Service, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. She successfully litigated numerous criminal jury trials in federal and local courts. She also argued a number of appellate cases. Prior to her government service, Stephanie was an associate in the Business Fraud and Complex Litigation Group at Cadwalader from 1994 until 2000.
Stephanie earned her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her J.D., cum laude, from Tulane Law School, where she was on the editorial board of the Tulane Law Review.
