Richard Aborn's principal area of practice area is general corporate matters, with an emphasis on leveraged lease, aircraft, vessel, and other equipment and project financings.  He has participated in large-ticket leasing and other financing transactions and, in the late 1970s, moved into vessel financings.  Some of the transactions he handled involved Title XI financings, the most noteworthy of which were those to aid in the construction of eight liquefied natural gas tankers built at General Dynamics's Quincy shipyard at a cost in excess of $1 billion.

Since the mid-1980s, Dick has been heavily involved in aircraft financing transactions, primarily representing Northwest Airlines since the commencement of its leasing activities in 1985.  He has negotiated and documented virtually all of their new aircraft lease and other financings since that time.  He negotiated and documented U.S. leveraged leases, lease-in lease-out financings, synthetic leases, German leveraged leases, Japanese leveraged leases, French credit bails, purchase money financings, credit facilities, and other debt financings (including enhanced equipment trust certificates).

He also represents Delta Air Lines and jetBlue Airways, and has represented equity investors and lenders in aircraft financing transactions with major air carriers. Since 1984, he has participated in aircraft financing transactions aggregating more than $25 billion.

Dick joined the firm as a summer associate in 1968, started as an associate in 1969, and has been a partner since 1978.

A cum laude graduate of Williams College, Dick earned his J.D. at Boston College, where he was a member of the Boston College Industrial and Commercial Law Review and was elected a member of the Order of the Coif.  He has been recognized as one of the nation's leading aviation law practitioners by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, The Legal 500, and the International Who's Who of Aviation Lawyers.

Dick is admitted to practice in the State of New York and is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the New York State Bar Association.
