Jodi L. Avergun

Jodi Avergun is an experienced former federal prosecutor whose practice focuses on representing corporations and individuals in criminal and regulatory matters involving, among other things, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, securities enforcement, health care, and general white collar matters. Jodi has successfully represented both companies and senior executives in internal investigations, matters before regulatory bodies including the SEC and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and in civil and criminal matters in federal court. She has also designed and implemented compliance programs for a variety of her clients.

Jodi frequently speaks on topics in her field, including recently lecturing to the ABA FCPA Institute on Collateral Consequences of FCPA Investigations and to the ABA White Collar Crime Institute on Best Practices for Handling Federal Criminal Investigations. She has also made presentations at the Food and Drug Law Institute's Conference on Regulation of Controlled Substances, at the Health Care Distribution Management Association's supply chain conference, and at the American Conference Institute on internal investigations.

Prior to joining the firm, Jodi was a senior official in the Department of Justice, where she served as chief of staff of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and in several leadership positions within the Criminal Division and the United States Attorney's Office for the the Eastern District of New York. Jodi was one of the principal advisors to the leadership of DOJ on matters involving domestic and international drug enforcement, anti-money laundering strategy, asset forfeiture, and pharmaceutical regulation. Jodi served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for 12 years in the Eastern District of New York, where she was ultimately appointed Senior Litigation Counsel and Chief of the Long Island Division. There, she oversaw and conducted a variety of money laundering and financial fraud investigations and prosecutions, including mortgage and securities fraud matters, tried numerous cases, and argued more than one dozen appeals in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Jodi is a 1984 graduate of Brown University and a 1987 graduate, magna cum laude, of Brooklyn Law School, where she was an editor of the Brooklyn Law Review. Jodi is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and New York State, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and various other federal circuit and district courts, including the Second Circuit, the District of the District of Columbia, and the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
