Andrew M. Troop
Andrew Troop focuses his practice on business reorganizations and debtors' and creditors' rights. He has represented debtors, creditors, acquirers, landlords, creditors' committees, and equity committees, both in and out of court, in diverse industries, including healthcare, energy, retail clothing, retail home goods, telecommunications, manufacturing, mail order personal computers, groceries, lodging, regional airlines, automobile replacement parts, and laser printers. He also has represented private equity clients in connection with acquiring, selling, and reorganizing both domestic and international portfolio companies and in defending fraudulent transfer and breach of duty claims asserted against private equity clients in connection with companies to which they have extended credit or invested equity. Most recently, Andrew was one of the lead lawyers in the successful reorganization of LyondellBasell Industries, the third largest petro chemical company in the world with assets, operations and debt located throughout the world.
Andrew's practice also includes representing nonprofit organizations, within his primary focus of debtors' and creditors' rights. Among others, he represents St. Vincents Catholic Medical Centers in its chapter 11 reorganization case, and other nonprofit, community-based service providers in both restructuring and corporate matters.
Nightingale Health Care News has honored Andrew as one of the top ten health care transaction lawyers of the year, and he was named a leading lawyer by IFLR 1000. He currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Healthcare and Nonprofits in Bankruptcy Subcommittee of the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the American Bar Association.
Long committed to pro bono, Andrew was honored in 2006 by the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts for representing the interests of Asian and Hispanic Americans with limited proficiency in English in connection with litigation commenced by the U.S. Department of Justice against the City of Boston alleging violations of the Voting Rights Act.
Andrew also has served as a trustee for Belmont Day School, located in Belmont, Mass. while president of the school's board of trustees, he oversaw a significant expansion and capital fundraising project. He currently serves on the board of Greater Boston Legal Services.
He received his J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law and his B.A., cum laude, from Amherst College.
